The unique terroir of Friuli

Terpin's vineyards are located in the rugged hills surrounding the small town of San Floriano del Collio, in the Friuli winemaking region, and cover approximately 12 hectares with vines at altitudes ranging from 120 to 320 meters above sea level.

Grape varieties include Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana, Friulano, Pinot Grigio, and Merlot, ultivated using chemical-free and chemical-free & holistic farming methods, and the soils are primarily composed of marl and sandstone which contribute to the unique flavor profiles of the wines. The grapes are also influenced by the cool climate and proximity to the Adriatic Sea, maintaining the acidity and freshness of the grapes.

So… why is it Tokaj called Jakot?

Well, the grape NAME Tokaj Friulano is controversial… as Hungary declared it does not want customers to be confusing their famous Tokaji wine (which is made of Furmint, Hárslevelu and Muscat Blanc a Petit Grains) with this Tokaj Friulano from Friuli and Slovenia.

So… it was suddenly an infringement to use the original grape name. Wine artisans in the Collio region defied this, in their own way and call their Tokaj grape Jakot… which is the same word backwards!

Terpin is highly committed to producing wines that express the unique character of his vineyards and the surrounding region. His wines are fermented using natural yeasts, and long maceration time, and are aged in a combination of oak barrels and cement tanks.

The resulting wines are highly expressive and complex, with a focus on the purity of fruit and vibrant acidity.
