NATURAL WINES BY CASÈ
Casè is Alberto Anguissola's estate in Casal Pozzino, known locally as Casè, above Travo in the Val Trebbia, in the Piacenza hills of Emilia-Romagna. He started in 1998, guided by Giulio Armani of Denavolo and La Stoppa, and Diego Ragazzi has worked alongside him for years. The steep vineyards sit at 500 to 600 metres and cover only about 4 hectares, half of it Pinot Noir, which is unusual for the area.
The rest is Bonarda, Barbera, Malvasia, Ortrugo, Marsanne and Moscato. Everything is worked by hand, and the cellar is small, with a few barriques and steel tanks. Most wines have no added sulphur and get extended aging time in barrel and bottle before release. Look out for the two Pinot Noirs, Casè and Riva del Ciliegio, the red blend Calcarot and the white Casebianco. The wines are serious and a little rustic, so give them some breathing time once opened.
