NATURAL WINES BY CHÂTEAU DE GRAND PRÉ
Château de Grand Pré is a family estate in Fleurie, in the heart of the Beaujolais crus. Romain Zordan took over his parents' vines in 2012 and now runs the domaine with his brother Alex. They work around 8 hectares of mostly old, bush-trained Gamay, largely in Fleurie on pink granite, with smaller plots in Morgon and Beaujolais Villages.
Grapes go in as whole bunches for a semi-carbonic ferment with wild yeasts, and Romain decides how long each vat macerates by tasting the juice every day. Sulphur is used sparingly, if at all. This is Beaujolais on the structured side, wines that can age. Look out for the Morgon, the Fleurie and the Cuvée Spaciale from very old vines, plus a Beaujolais Blanc from Chardonnay.
