Lustro 2021 is a natural wine crafted by Abbazia San Giorgio, on the hot and volcanic Pantelleria island outside Sicily and Italy. ... but not too far from Africa either! This orange wine is made with Catarratto  grapes. This wine is macerated on the skins for around 7 days, then aged for 4 months in stainless steel and refined for a further 2 months in bottle.

We have not yet tried this vintage but hear it is a fragrant macerated Catarratto with lemon peel, bitter orange, orange blossom, pineapple and passion fruit, finished with a subtle herbal touch. Fresh and expressive, with bright citrus, gentle texture and tangy finish.

abbazia San Giorgio

Abbazia San Giorgio

Abbazia San Giorgio was established in 2015 by Battista Belvisi, an agronomist and winemaker born on Pantelleria into a family with its own history of making wine. Battista spent roughly a decade working alongside Gabrio Bini as his main man, before deciding to establish a cellar under his own name. The estate began with 3.5 hectares near Khamma on the island's southeastern side and has since grown, making around 10,000 bottles a year.

The vineyards grow in dark volcanic soils under intense sun and constant wind. Zibibbo, the local name for Muscat of Alexandria, is the central grape. Many vines are old, and some remain ungrafted in the island's sandy volcanic terrain.
