Monastary Riesling 2022

Monastary Riesling 2022 is a natural wine crafted by Brand Bros, in the Pfalz region in Germany. This EXCEPTIONAL white wine is made with Riesling grapes, and is their most prized plot called Klosterschaffnerei. Legend has it, that the site is associated with an old tithe barn used by the monastery in the Middle Ages to collect taxes from the region.

Here the Riesling is grown on a 65 year old vineyard, on a south facing slope. There is a thick slab of limestone rock underneath, which Jonas Brand tells us heats up a lot during the day, and retains that warmth during the night so it ripens earlier, meaning its one of the first plots they harvest in order to retain freshness and lower alcohol. 

Vinification involves 12 hours skin maceration after a foot stomp before being added to 50 year old big 1200l barrels, where it spends 12 months on the lees.
