Brutal 2025 is a beautiful, light red natural wine crafted by Gut Oggau, in the Burgenland region in Austria. This rare and very special light red wine is made with a field blend of PiWi grapes (Hybrids) but do not let that turn you off... trust us, Gut Oggau have a special ability with Hybrid grape to make them taste, well, "much less Hybridy".
We don't now how they do it.. but they do it so well, also with Josefine which uses the grape Rösler, also a PiWi. Their former Brutal! wine also used this same Hybrid grape, so if you had that one you know what they can do with them...
Here however they use "rare red PIWI grape varieties of Austrian genetic origin, cultivars never before planted outside the experimental nursery rows where they were bred" and the result is SERIOUSLY IMPRESSIVE!
The drinkability here is simply marvelous... but there is also great energy and depth, without a tannic structure. Whilst it looks like a light red, it could also be a dark rosé.
We enjoyed pops of red forest berries, blueberries, hibiscus, vanilla and raspberry yogurt alongside a very mild creamy touch.
Less than 600 bottles produced to meet worldwide demand and also a reserve for their own stock at their winery restaurant... this is a wine not to sleep on. Grab it now or you may miss you chance - when they are gone, they're gone!
Stephanie & Eduard Tscheppe state their Brutal 2025 is
"Cultivated in traditional Stockkultur on quartz-rich soils, each vine stands individually staked, free of wires or trellising, drawing raw mineral energy from the crystalline bedrock.
The result is a delicious, untamed expression: deeply pigmented, electric with tension, and unmistakably Brutal in spirit, a living document of Austrian viticultural heritage reborn through fungus-resistant genetics and uncompromising natural winegrowing. The vineyards themselves worked by horses, no heavy machines, with a resulting unbridled spirit found in the wine itself.
This edition of Brutal is uplifting, energizing, and unmistakably vitalizing. It is bright with a playful animating touch. This is the sort of wine you want to keep drinking, and therein lies the cruelty: you'll want more, but there simply isn't much. "
