We also use a way smaller proportion of skin-contact wine in the final blends, as we really wish to showcase the different personalities of our various vineyards, rather than covering them with an amber veil. That said, I still like to enjoy a (tamed) skin contact wine from time to time; especially during our recent holiday in my beloved Collio \/ Brda area, we drank a fair bit. And I understand that a lot of people are, on the contrary, suckers for this style, since hardly a week goes by without someone asking me for something\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003eorange\u003c\/i\u003e.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"\" genericcontent-block=\"\" slideinview-item=\"\" is-visible=\"\"\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn short, skin contact wines still have their place in my heart and cellar, and creating an amber brother to our dear Běl \u0026amp; Nach liters was kind of a no-brainer.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese three salt-of-the-earth fellas all share not only the plump one-liter bottles that we've really fallen in love with, and linocut label by my dear wife Mirka, but also the same “everyday easy drinking” vibe. You know me, I'm still making wine mainly for myself, wine that my family and I like to drink .)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis means no hardcore tannins or long macerations, but rather a fine,\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ci\u003enormal\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eskin contact wine with great energy, distinguished aromatics, and only a hint of the “orangey” character. Fermented mostly as whole berries, without stomping and with only gentle punch-downs, 5 – 7 days depending on the variety. All this in order to get only a gentle extraction, to make this wine as palatable and drinkable as possible (talking big gulps here). Aged for cca 11 months half in old oak, half in stainless steel tank, then bottled unfined, unfiltered, unsulfured. (Hence my soft spot for this plot.) It used to be planted with Blaufrankisch, but in 1987, our village was hit with severe frost that killed most of the vines. I have no idea why the socialist cooperative decided to replant this plot with Pinot Gris instead of BF back then, but luckily they used historical local clones, with very dark skin color. So dark that when my winemaking neighbour blindly tasted the first-ever vintage of this wine, back in 2013, he congratulated me on making such a beautiful Blaufrankisch or Saint Laurent.\u003cstrong\u003e I tried to explain to him that it actually was a PInot Gris, but he wouldn't believe me, telling me it was just some podfuk (“cheating\" or \"trick\" in Czech) of mine. That's why we've released so few pure Blaufrankisch wines so far - until now. This one is from a beautiful, balanced south-oriented vineyard called Jung. It's an ode to my signature spontaneity and curiosity (some might say lack of plan, haha), a white solera born in 2019 in one of our very first Stockinger barrels. At first, we started blending various white wines (mostly Gruner, some Chardo and Riesling) from our Slovenské plot that didn't fit into their respective barrels, and then each vintage it became this game of \"Stockinger Surprise\", a wine living its own life without any projections about how it should taste. And it tastes good!
