Lubbe (originally from South Africa, trained at Domaine Gauby) founded Matassa in 2003. The wine is a blend of Carignan and Lledoner Pelut (Hairy Grenache) from 80 to 130 year-old vines on iron-rich red schist soils. Whole-cluster ferment with 4-day maceration in fibreglass tanks, then 9 months in demi-muid barrels.
