Riesling PurPur 2023 by Andi Mann is a vibrant and delicious natural wine made in Rheinhessen, Germany with 100% Riesling grapes.

The natural wine scene in Germany is having a moment right now. What once was fun and easy breezy wines has become much more serious, with longer aging on the lees, such as Marto now does with his Riesling Reserve.

This Riesling PurPur 2023 stood out in the same manner, having also seen 2 years in the barrel. Boy, what a transformation happens when Riesling is just allowed to sit on the lees for a few years, rather than bottled to be fresh and crisp. Here, you’ll find power, texture and depth in addition to incredible drinkability.

This is an excellent example of how natural winemaking with Riesling can work oh so well!

This Riesling delivers EVERYTHING you want it to. It has slight petrol aspects, minerality and unripe peach vibes.

A WINE OF THE WEEK... and a wine you need to try!!! Exceptional.

NATURAL WINES BY ANDI MANN

Andi Mann runs his family's estate in Eckelsheim in south-west Rheinhessen, where the Manns have made wine since 1699. He is part of the new Rheinhessen wave, alongside friends like Martin Wörner and B.D Schmitt. He farms 10 hectares on a patchwork of soils, from sand and limestone to volcanic porphyry and rhyolite, and shows off the limestone in his CALX range. One plot is a Mischkultur, with vines among fruit trees and herbs.

Fermentations run on native yeasts in large old oak casks, many whites get one to three weeks on the skins, and sulphur is kept very low or left out. Most wines are easy drinking, like the Cuvee Weiss and the Rosa X rosé in litre bottles. The Weiss Mischkultur blends Bacchus, Riesling, Scheurebe and Würzer from that mixed plot. For the serious side, try the PurPur wines or Herr Kretz Riesling.
