Who Are Les Bottes Rouges?
Les Bottes Rouges is Jean-Baptiste Menigoz and his partner Florien Kleine Snuverink, based in Abergement-le-Petit, just outside Arbois in the Jura.
Jean-Baptiste did not inherit a domaine. He was a special-needs teacher in Arbois and made wine on the side for years, until winemaker friends including Stéphane Tissot, where he did his apprenticeship, and Raphaël Monnier told him he had real talent. In 2012 he made his first official vintage from two hectares.
Florien is Dutch and used to run a café in Amsterdam. She came to the Jura to learn winemaking, and instead of starting her own domaine she became Jean-Baptiste's partner in everything. The name comes from a rock song.

Popular Les Bottes Rouges Wines
Léon is their Chardonnay and one of the most popular wines they make. Face B is a salty, lively Savagnin topped up in barrel, and No Milk Today is a skin-macerated Savagnin.
On the red side, Gibus is Trousseau, Tôt ou Tard is Poulsard, La Pépée is Pinot Noir and Boomerang blends Poulsard and Trousseau. Pollocks and Neo are exceptional value for Jura wine, and Kilt is a vin de liqueur.
Several wines also come in magnum. Their own motto sums it up: they make the wines they like to drink themselves. Check the list below for what we have right now.
How Les Bottes Rouges Make Their Wines
What started as two hectares is now around seven, spread over several plots around Arbois and Abergement-le-Petit, about half owned and half rented. The soils are classic Jura limestone, heavy clay and marl, planted with Chardonnay, Savagnin, Trousseau, Poulsard and Pinot Noir.
The reds give the light, silky Jura style, sometimes a little darker than their neighbours. Most are destemmed by hand and made in steel, but some, like Neo, are whole bunch, and part of La Pépée goes into barrels. The whites are usually pressed straight away and fermented in steel, large foudres or small barrels.
Fermentations are spontaneous, and sulphur is used rarely and in small amounts, and often not at all. The style is both serious and playful, from classic Jura bottles to pet nats and macerated wines.
