Epic

Epic is a natural wine crafted by Meinklang, in the Burgenland region in Austria. This sparkling wine is made with Welschriesling, Muscat and Grüner Veltliner grapes., and is actually not a Pet Nat, but a sparkling wine made with the Charmont method, often found in Prosecco. This method pushes carbonated gas into the still wine, making it bubbly. This is cheaper and less risky than making a pet nat.

How is Epic made?

Epic is a blend of Welschriesling, Muscat and Grüner Veltliner that ferments spontaneously as a still wine, then gets its bubbles from added carbon dioxide rather than a second fermentation. It is a simple, honest way of making an affordable fizz, at around 10.5%.

Meinklang is the Michlits family farm at Pamhagen, on the eastern side of Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, with vines on both the Austrian and Hungarian side of the border. It is a whole working farm, with cattle, grains and vegetables alongside the vines, all worked chemical-free.
