Narcissus 2022 is a natural wine crafted by Wine Artisans, in the Shida Kartli region in Georgia. This orange wine is made with Chinuri and Muscat grapes.

Highly aromatic with an evocative nose of red roses and medow flower, notes of orange blossom, jasmine tea, apricot and ripe peach. The palate is expressive and layered, yet delicate in texture, with very soft tannins, balanced acidity and lively freshness. Elegant and complex, the wine combines floral aromatics with subtle fruit depth and a long, refined finish.

This small-production cuvée blends 50% Chinuri and 50% Muscat from vineyards on the southern slopes of the Caucasus in Shida Kartli. The wine ferments with wild yeasts and undergoes skin maceration only on the Muscat grapes, creating an aromatic amber style with gentle structure. It spends 7 months in traditional qvevri followed by 16 months aging in stainless steel. The wine is made without added sulfites and bottled unfiltered, with a total production of only 550 bottles.

NATURAL WINES BY WINE ARTISANS

Wine Artisans is the small winery of Andro Barnovi, who came to wine from academia and politics. It is based in Tsedisi in Shida Kartli, in the Ateni area, with further parcels in Kakheti. The vineyards get long hours of sun on limestone-rich clay, with little water after mid-July. There are 15 grape varieties, mainly Chinuri, Goruli Mtsvane, Shavkapito and Tavkveri, plus rarities like Chkapa.

Andro ferments with wild yeasts and adds no sulphur. Many wines spend around seven months on their skins in qvevri, then a long rest in stainless steel, sometimes with a spell in oak. Runs are tiny, often just a few hundred bottles. Many are named after mythological figures: Helios is Goruli Mtsvane, Hecate is Tavkveri and Mithra is a Kakhetian blend of Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Kisi and Khikhvi. Narcissus pairs Chinuri with Muscat.
