Hurry… almost sold out!

Kakhuri Mtsvane 2020 by Jakeli Wines is a natural wine made in Kakheti with Kakhuri Mtsvane grapes.

This Jakeli wine spends 2 months on skin.

With all Georgian wines, do not serve chilled, and allow to breathe for best results. These wines are stable and should hold a good few days once open, improving greatly with time.

Production details of Kakhuri Mtsvane: Kakhuri Mtsvane is made by Zaza Jakeli, who has been producing natural wines in Kakheti, eastern Georgia since 2000. His winery in Vardisubani works in the traditional Georgian method, using qvevri (clay vessels buried in the ground). The Kakhuri Mtsvane (also known as Kakhetian Green) spends 2 months on its skins in qvevri before bottling.

Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of Kakhuri Mtsvane by Jakeli Wines, but we hear it has notes of marmalade, tangerine, honey, ripe peach and caramel.

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

JAKELI WINES

NATURAL WINES BY JAKELI WINES

Jakeli Wines is run by Zaza Jakeli and his brother in Khashmi, a village in the Kakheti region of eastern Georgia that has a big name for Saperavi. The brothers planted their vineyard in 2001 and started selling wine about seven years later, making them early natural producers in Georgia. They farm around 6 hectares at 500 to 700 metres, and their Saperavi vineyard has never been irrigated.

At first they used steel and oak alongside a few qvevri, the clay vessels buried in the ground. Since 2018 every wine has been made in qvevri, and nothing goes into bottle with added sulphur. The whites are amber wines fermented on their skins, while the Saperavi gets about a month on its skins and then a year or more of ageing. We currently stock the Kakhuri Mtsvane, an amber wine from the white grape also known as Kakhetian Green.
