Terrasses 2022 is a red natural wine crafted by Charlotte and Aurélien Houillon of Domaine Houillon, in the Rhône region in France. Whilst blends can change vintage to vintage on cuvees, this vintage of Terrasses is made with 100% Grenache . No added sulphites.

Tasting Notes for Terrasses 2022 by Domaine Houillon

This vintage of Terrasses 2022, which is 14.5%, has notes of raspberry, ripe morello cherry, balsamic touches and a hint of iron.

It has a slight fizz at first, which keeps it perky and light, yet there is also some depth and after some air the structure becomes more prevalent, revealing medium to full-bodied southern Rhône Grenache with smooth tannins carrying the fruit generously yet purely.

About Domaine Houillon in Rhone

Aurélien Houillon, a native of Jura and another talented relative of Emmanuel Houillon of Maison Pierre Overnoy in Jura has also worked at the estate in addition to other places before settling down in Rhone to work alongside his partner Charlotte. The wines are zero-zero, as expected from the rest of the family legends, and offer a big energy and depth. They farm 2.5 hectares of vines in Faucon, in the Vaucluse, on a total property (and accommodation facilities) of 9 hectares. They farm their vines exclusively by horse too!

Domaine Charlotte and Aurelien Houillon

NATURAL WINES BY DOMAINE HOUILLON

Domaine Houillon is Aurélien Houillon and his partner Charlotte in Faucon, in the Vaucluse. Aurélien is the brother of Emmanuel Houillon of Maison Pierre Overnoy in the Jura, where he worked for years before heading south. In 2017 they took on a 9-hectare property with semi-abandoned vines, around 4 hectares now in production, mostly Grenache of 50 years and older, plus Syrah and a little Cinsault. The vines are worked with Victoire, a draught horse, and Castor, a donkey.

Grapes are destemmed by hand and fermented semi-carbonically in stainless steel for around ten weeks, then aged in steel or old barrels, with nothing added. Vieilles Vignes is pure old-vine Grenache, Canne blends Grenache with Syrah, and Indigo is mostly Syrah. Look out too for Tourmaline, a rosé aged under a veil of yeast the Jura way. Deep, structured wines that keep their freshness and age well.
