Weissburgunder Kalkstein 2025 is a natural wine crafted by Seckinger, in the Pfalz region in Germany. This white wine is made with Pinot Blanc grapes, aka Weissburgunder in Germany.

The 2020 release marks the debut vintage of this Weissburgunder from limestone soils of Seckinger. The fruit comes from vineyards around Maikammer and Altdorf in the Südpfalz, where limestone and loess shape the character of the wine.

We have not tried this wines yet but hear the nose shows subtle smoky notes alongside a gently reductive edge and hints of brioche. On the palate, the influence of barrel ageing appears as a light reduction and added structure. A high level of extract gives the wine a rounded texture and depth, while still keeping a smooth, easy-drinking flow.

We expect razor-sharp acidity with notes of pear, nutty hints and unripe apricot.

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

Seckinger

NATURAL WINES BY SECKINGER

Seckinger is a family estate in Niederkirchen, near Deidesheim in the Mittelhaardt, now run by the seventh generation: brothers Jonas, Lukas and Philipp. They took the helm from around 2012, and Jonas made his first wine at 17 in the family garage. Their vineyards spread around Deidesheim, Ruppertsberg and Königsbach, on a mix of mottled sandstone, chalk and loess.

Riesling leads, alongside Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, all fermented with wild yeasts, many in wooden barrels. The brothers love the Jura, which shows in a gentle oxidative touch in some wines, and they brought Savagnin from there into an old Gewürztraminer vineyard for the Savagnin Ente. The R Pure wines have no added sulphur; the rest get a small dose at bottling, which the Qualitätswein label requires. Look out for the ungrafted Riesling Kieselberg Wurzelecht, Grauburgunder Kalkstein and the light, partly whole-bunch Nero Rosso.
