Named after a Jaco Pastorius album. Patrice Béguet’s relationship with jazz runs through everything he does, the lateral thinking, the willingness to combine elements that shouldn’t work and make them work, the love of texture and surprise. Three Views of a Secret is that instinct applied ...but with Alsace grapes rather than from Jura. Here, he uses the spicy and aromatic grape Gewürztraminer!
For this cuvee, Patrice sources the grapes from a trusted holisitc producer friend in Alsace. The Gewürztraminer undergoes four weeks of skin-contact maceration at his Jura cellar, with no sulphites added at any stage.
We have not yet tried this wine ourselves but hear it is spice-driven and aromatic, with a textural quality the maceration gives it. Flavour wise, we hear it has notes of dried rose petals, ginger, white pepper, and apricot, with a tannic grip on the finish that is firm but not aggressive. Complex, layered, and genuinely interesting from the first sip to the last is what people say!
Patrice Béguet left a career as an IT consultant in Paris to return to Mesnay, near Arbois in the Jura, where he was born. He took the wine diploma at Beaune and now farms around four hectares of Jura vines of Ploussard, Trousseau, Savagnin, and Chardonnay under the estate label Domaine Hughes Béguet. His ‘Big Bunch Theory’ négociant series sources fruit from producers across France, creating experimental cross-regional blends. Every label in the Big Bunch Theory range is painted by artist Aya Sato.
