Vin de Lagamba is Alanna Lagamba, a Canadian winemaker working in Rheinhessen, Germany. Alanna came to Berlin and worked in restaurants and bars, which is where she fell for natural wine. At a wine fair she met Martin Wörner of Marto, asked if she could help with his next harvest, and never really left.
She wanted her own project, and found it in Dornfelder vines on Martin's plots that nobody was using. Her idea was a German take on Lambrusco. The result, with a splash of Silvaner, was Frauenpower, and we are proud to have been the very first customer to buy it.
The name comes from a record owned by Martin's mother, and Alanna meant it as an ode to her as a real "Power Frau". Today she and Martin work the Flonheim vines together, and her wines are sought after around the world.
Frauenpower is a fruity, fun red pet nat from Dornfelder with a little Silvaner, full of energy and perfect for pizza, barbecues, parties or the sofa. It is one of the most popular wines we have ever sold. There have also been a Frauenpower Rosé, a still Frauenpower made as an exclusive collaboration, and Frauenpower Fusion.
In Alanna's words: "I don't like it when people take wine so seriously." Most of her wines sparkle. Mehr Frauen? Ja Bitte! (More women? Yes please!) is another juicy sparkler, Cuvée Royale and the Blanc de Noir Sekt are traditional method sparkling wines, and the Hauswein is her everyday bottle.
She also makes Powerglow with Pauline Baumberger of Glow Glow Wines, a collaboration whose blend changes every year. Releases are small and change constantly, so check the list below for what we have right now.
Alanna's grapes come from the vines she and Martin farm around Flonheim in Rheinhessen.
Her pet nats are bottled while still finishing their first fermentation, so the bubbles come from the wine itself. The traditional method wines get their second fermentation in the bottle and time on the lees, Champagne-style.
No sulphur goes in, and neither does anything else. Like Marto, everything is made in the family cellar in Flonheim.
