La Colonel 2025 is a natural wine crafted by La Grange Saint André, in the Languedoc region in France. This white wine is made with 100% Grenache Blanc grapes.

This is a rich, creamy white, and is mildly oily in a way we are very happy about and comes with a soft lactic edge to it. Butter, meadow flowers and a hint of mint, a golden colour and a faint oxidative lift come behind the fruit, finishing on linden flower and acacia.

More rounded and classic than a lot of natural whites while still tasting unmistakably like one, and there is enough weight here that you will sip rather than gulp. If wanting to pair this with food, a good option could be roast chicken, mushrooms or a plate of hard cheese.

Made from 100% Grenache Blanc from eighteen-year-old vines, La Colonel is grown on on half a hectare of miocene sandstone and deep sandy clay at 110 metres on north-west facing slopes. Hand-picked and pressed straight off, fermented in tank and raised six months, with a small sulphur addition at bottling kept under 15mg/L.

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

NATURAL WINES BY LA GRANGE SAINT ANDRÉ

La Grange Saint André is Olivier Pichon's small domaine in Souvignargues, near Sommières in the Gard. A former social worker from Lyon, Olivier had no formal wine training and learned from his friend, the vigneron Thierry Forestier, who sold him his first hectare in 2015. His first vintage was 2016. He now farms around four hectares of sandstone, limestone and sandy clay hillsides at about 100 metres, with vines from 10 to 50 years old.

Everything is hand-picked. Reds go into tank as whole bunches for three or four days, with no pumping over, then rest in steel. Most wines get no added sulphur, the whites a small dose. Le Marmot, mostly Cinsault, is the everyday red and one of the best value bottles we stock. Grenache des Grès comes from 50-year-old vines, La Colonel and Blanc Seing are the whites, and A Souvi t'as Soif is a barely fizzy, off-dry rosé.
