Root Weiss

Root Weiss is a budget natural wine crafted by Hareter, in the Burgenland region in Austria. This white wine is made with Chardonnay and Neuburger grapes.

Production details of Root Weiss: Root Weiss is made by Thomas and Claudia Hareter in Weiden am See, Burgenland. The blend is Chardonnay and Neuburger from 29-year-old vines on poor gravel and loamy subsoils. Grapes are hand-harvested, lightly foot-crushed, given 4 days of skin maceration in open stainless steel vats with hand punch-downs, then ferment wild. Bottled without filtration.

Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of Root Weiss by Hareter, but we hear it has notes of pear, walnut, citrus, salt and a flinty mineral edge.
