Arbois Pupillin Ploussard 2023 is a natural wine crafted by Emmanuel Houillon-Overnoy at Maison Pierre Overnoy, in the village of Pupillin in the Jura region of France. This red wine is made with Ploussard grapes, the pale, perfumed Jura red that Pupillin calls its own.
We are not selling this bottle
This page is here so you can read about the wine. We do not sell Houillon-Overnoy, out of principle. When we get hold of a few bottles we give them away rather than add to the speculation around them. Entry is free with any order.

About Ploussard 2023 by Maison Pierre Overnoy
Ploussard is the same grape the rest of France spells Poulsard, and Pupillin has called itself its world capital for a long time. At this domaine it grows on grey marl and blue marl, the two soils Pierre Overnoy picks out when he walks the vines. It gives a red so pale it can look like a dark rosé in the glass, and it carries perfume rather than weight.
You can tell this bottle apart from the others without reading a word of the label. The domaine codes its wines by wax: red wax is Ploussard, yellow is Savagnin, white is Chardonnay. The vintage sits on the small shield at the neck.
How it is made
No sulphur goes in, and neither does anything else. Pierre split the 1985 vintage, part with a little sulphur and part without, and from 1986 the wines here have been made with none at all. Emmanuel Houillon-Overnoy has run the domaine since 2001 and has kept it that way.
The whole estate is six and a half hectares, with two hectares of Ploussard in it, and a normal year gives 20,000 to 25,000 bottles across every wine. Frost took 2017, 2019 and 2021, and 2021 gave six hectolitres per hectare, close to nothing. There is very little of this wine anywhere in the world.
We have not tried this vintage. We would rather tell you that than invent a tasting note for a bottle we are giving away.
