Barolo 2021

Barolo 2021 by Ferdinando Principiano is a 13.5% natural wine made in Piedmont with the local, highly prized Nebbiolo grapes. Expect violets, red berries, pepper, tobacco and a plummy, liquorice, spicy kick.

Like most Barolo, this elegant, classic in style yet still natural wine will age gracefully, but is made in a way which is fresh and approachable in its youth

Production Details: Principiano's Barolo comes from vineyards in Monforte d'Alba and Serralunga in Piedmont. The soils are limestone, clay, and sand. Some of the Nebbiolo vines date back to 1934. Fermentation happens in stainless steel. The wine is aged in large wooden barrels — 20 to 40 hectolitres — for an extended period, allowing gradual extraction and complexity.

Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried the 2021 vintage of Barolo by Ferdinando Principiano, but we hear it has notes of cherry, tar, licorice, roses, and considerable tannin structure.
