NATURAL WINES BY VALDIBELLA
Valdibella is a farming cooperative in Camporeale, in the hills of the province of Palermo in western Sicily. It began in 1998 as a community linked to the Salesians and became a cooperative in 2000. The members work around 220 hectares, about 70 of them vineyards, at 300 to 500 metres on leached red soils of lime and clay over sedimentary rock. The cooperative refuses to pay mafia protection money and carries the Addiopizzo logo.
They grow native Catarratto, Grillo, Nero d'Avola and Perricone, plus some Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Müller-Thurgau. The first bottled vintage was 2009. Some cuvées are bottled with no added sulphur at all. Wines people know include Ariddu, a Grillo, and the Catarratto bottlings Munir and Isolano. We stock Dhyana, a light rosé made from Perricone.
