Schioppettino 2019

Schioppettino 2019 by Bressan is a natural wine made in Friuli with Schioppettino grapes, aka Ribolla Nera. Ribolla Nera, called in Friuli Schioppettino, is one of the most typical and elegant indigenous-Friulian vines: purplish red in color and a scent reminiscent of wild blackberry, raspberry and blueberry. With aging it evolves into an elegant bouquet of undergrowth, musk, aromatic wood.

Production Details: Bressan's Schioppettino from Friuli-Venezia Giulia undergoes 30 to 35 days of fermentation on the skins. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 48 or more months in 20 hectolitre wooden vessels made from oak, chestnut, and wild pear. This extended ageing in mixed woods builds complexity and subtle regional character.

Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried the 2019 vintage of Schioppettino by Bressan, but we hear it has notes of dark cherry, plum, spice, herbs, and considerable structure from extended skin contact and wood ageing.
