Stamattane 2024 is a 14% natural wine crafted by Fattoria di Sammontana, in the Tuscany region in Italy. This red wine is made with 100% Syrah grapes, grown on an old parcel where the vines are 50 years old.

Fermented as whole bunch to get a peppery kick with semi-carbonic methods, and fermented in stainless steel. Then transferred to cement vats to age for 8 months with no additional sulphites added at any point.

Average annual production: 1000 bottles.

About Fattoria di Sammontana

Fattoria di Sammontan a farm working closely with nature, located in Montelupo Fiorentino, along the Arno valley, just 20 Km. from Florence. They tend about 13 hectares of vineyards and more than 3,000 olive trees, planted between 70 and 150 meters above sea level. The soil is alluvial, and as such is full of stones, gravel, and pebbles of various sizes that are technically referred to as “skeletons”. They say this soil, usually defined as “ungrateful”, is the one that gives character and personality to their wines.

FATTORIA DI SAMMONTANA

NATURAL WINES BY FATTORIA DI SAMMONTANA

Fattoria di Sammontana sits in Montelupo Fiorentino, on the hills behind the Arno valley about 20 km west of Florence. The estate goes back to the 12th century and once belonged to the Medici. A Polish nobleman, Michele Dzieduszycki, bought it in the 19th century, and his family still runs it four generations on, today with Daniele, Andrea and Lorenzo Dzieduszycki. Vines and some 3,000 olive trees grow between 70 and 150 metres, on stony alluvial soils full of gravel and pebbles, farmed holistically.

Reds ferment with wild yeasts in glazed cement tanks, whites in steel, and the wines mature in steel, concrete, old barrels or terracotta amphorae. Sulphur has been cut back year after year. Start with the Alberese, Sangiovese with a splash of Trebbiano, made to drink lightly chilled, then the Chianti Superiore 'San Firenze', and the Stamattane, a whole-bunch Syrah.
