Gelber Muskateller Vom Opok 2023

Gelber Muskateller Vom Opok 2023 by Sepp and Maria Muster is a natural wine made in Styria, Austria with 100% Gelber Muskateller grapes, which are also known as Muscat Blanc a Petit Grain.

Here the wine is grown on Opok soils, a type of sedimentary clay and limestone that brings a deep, dark mineral edge to the wine. In Südsteiermark the grape shows a slightly different character than it does in places like Roussillon or Samos, but it remains unmistakably Muscat.

We have not yet tried this vintage but here the aromatics are vivid and lifted: elderflower just after pruning, freshly chopped mint, and more hints of freshly cut green herbs leap from the glass. On the palate, our friends tell us that flavours of passionfruit and ripe apricot seem to cling to a salty, stony backbone. Bright acidity, refined fruit, and a mineral core.
