Stéphane Tissot: The MASTER of Vin Jaune (Video)
Stéphane Tissot is a pioneer of making Vin Jaune in Jura.
Of course, whilst we say pioneer, he did not invent the so-called "Yellow Wine" of the region which has been made for many centuries, BUT he was the first to identify and prove the power of Terroir on this oxidative wine technique.
He has done this by making Vin Jaune wines on his specific plots of different soil types, which was previously not seen as that important in differentiating between the Vin Jaune characteristics.
Most Vin Jaune producers will assemble all the plots they have from all different soil types such as Lias and Trias, Marl and Limestone into their production of Vin Jaune, and the importance of the barrels and cellar was given the focus.
Stéphane Tissot however, has showcases in his range of Vin Jaune the stark differences the soils from Trias and Lias create even with an oxidative style, which can be quite powerful.
his is why he is a pioneer of Vin Jaune, and in our mind and many others with his very low intervention methods to let the wines shine throughout - a master in the minds of wine lovers.
Stephane Tissot Vin Jaune video
We made a video of Stéphane Tissot describing the differences between his site-specific Vin Jaune, and how this affects the profile of each wine, which is truly quite fascinating
We highly recommend you get some Tissot Vin Jaune, and ideally age it for a long time if it is a newer release (remember they spend at LEAST 6 years in barrel, so the current release is 2016-2017.
Enjoy with some Comte cheese and savour the moment...
