Who Is Meinklang?
Meinklang is the Michlits family farm in Pamhagen, in Burgenland, Austria, right on the Hungarian border near Lake Neusiedl. Parents Anneliese and Werner Michlits turned the farm away from chemicals in the late 1980s, and today their sons Werner, Hannes and Lukas run it, with Werner and his wife Angela making the wines together.
This is a whole farm, not just a vineyard. Across roughly 2,500 hectares the family keeps a herd of more than 300 Angus cattle, along with sheep, pigs, goats and chickens, and grows ancient grains like Einkorn and Emmer, some of which go into their own beer and bread. The animals graze and fertilise the land, and the land feeds the animals.
What makes Meinklang unusual is scale. Very few producers manage to make natural wine of this quality in these volumes, which is exactly why bottles like Weisser Mulatschak can be so affordable.

Popular Meinklang Wines
Weisser Mulatschak is the one we sell most: a skin-contact white that we think is one of the best value orange wines ever made, also available in magnum and in a 1.5 litre bag. Roter Mulatschak is its easy-drinking red sibling.
Graupert comes from vines the family stopped pruning, left to grow wild ("graupert" means scruffy). The Graupert Grauburgunder is a textured, skin-touched Pinot Gris. Foam Vulkan is a sparkling wine from the family's vines on the volcanic soils of Hungary, and there is also Epic.
The Morgen, Tag, Abend and Nacht editions (morning, day, evening and night) are the more special, playful side of Meinklang. The range changes from year to year, so check the list below for what we have right now.
How Meinklang Wines Are Made
The vineyards sit on both sides of the Austrian-Hungarian border: around Pamhagen near Lake Neusiedl, and on Somló, an extinct volcano in western Hungary. On the Austrian side the family grows typical Austrian grapes such as Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Gris, Blaufränkisch and Saint Laurent, while the Hungarian side brings Hárslevelű and Juhfark.
In the cellar the wines ferment spontaneously with their own yeasts and are handled with as little intervention as possible. Some cuvées are aged in amphora and in concrete eggs.
Sulphur is used with a light hand: little to none, depending on the wine. If you are looking for zero-sulphur bottles specifically, check the individual product pages.

Who owns Meinklang?
The Michlits family. Werner, Hannes and Lukas Michlits run the farm today, and Werner and Angela Michlits make the wines together.
Where is Meinklang?
In Pamhagen, Burgenland, Austria, near Lake Neusiedl and right on the Hungarian border, with vineyards on both sides.
What is Weisser Mulatschak?
Meinklang's skin-contact white, an affordable orange wine and one of our bestsellers of all time.
Is Meinklang a farm or a winery?
Both. The family keeps over 300 Angus cattle plus other animals and grains, and the farm works as one cycle that includes the vineyards.
Do Meinklang wines contain sulphur?
They are made with little to no added sulphur, depending on the wine.
Why is Meinklang wine so affordable?
Because of its scale. Meinklang is one of the largest natural wine producers we know, which keeps prices down without cutting corners.
