How does Kiki taste?
Jas Swan herself describes Kiki as having "notes of fresh red berries like strawberries and redcurrants. Armed with little grip and a little spice, with good acidity. It would pair well with lighter charcuterie, cheeses such as brie or comte, beet dishes, tacos, light meat as turkey or chicken"
How is Kiki by Katla Wines made?
All the wine is made in Stainless Steel to preserve freshness. The Weissburgunder which comes from Rheinhessen's Nicklas Rückrich sees three days maceration on the skins, the Merlot from Rheinhessen's Andi Mann sees 5 days of semi-carbonic maceration and the Riesling from Piri Natural undergoes 3 days. It is bottled with 6g of Residual Sugar and whilst energetic in the bubble with some foam, does not explode on opening.
Who is Jasmin Swan of Katla Wines?
Founded in 2019 by Jasmin Swan, Katla Wines is a micro négoce project based in Rheinhessen. Besides working just 0.8ha herself, she also buys grapes from her friends in the area to make freestyle wines that elevate and redefines German winemaking to new directions.
With a smaller general production of about 10,000 liters, Swan works artisanally and creatively, preferring quality over quantity.
Supporting not just her winegrower friends with the purchase of grapes she also collabs with drag queens on her labels from around Europe, celebrating and supporting the lgbtqia community in her own special way. Such drag wines are the party wines of her portfolio: Fun, easy, delightful.
Having lived in Iceland, her more serious and often single blend wines are presented with analog pictures of her own travels. Creating a cohesive look for distinctive wines. These wines have the tendency for being a bit more serious and yet playful and elegant at the same time.
Katla Wines is independent, selfmade and full of surprises.
Every year there's a new label to a wine, because for her a new vintage is like a new music album.
Some people inheret tradition, instead Swan prefers to create her own.
