Dluhe Grefty is a very small scale natural wine producer from Mutěnice in the Moravia region in Czech Republic, who utilise many different small plots to total around 7 hectares of vines. Wines are made with little to no sulphur, and are working in a mechanical way without technology.
With their first vintage in 2015, this family-run winery focuses on the Neuburger, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes and the results are often experimental, wild and pure, pretty much all at 12% alcohol too. Popular Dluhe Grefty wines include ALBA Mixtura, Rufus and Helena Pet Nat.
Here are five of their great wines to try:
Alba Rosales
Alba Rosales is a natural wine crafted by Dluhe Grefty, in the Moravia region in Czech Republic. This DELICIOUS orange wine is made with 100% Gewürztraminer grapes aged for 14 days on the skins, allowing this special wine to give off a wonderful herbal approach alongside fine tannins and delightful stone fruit elements. Peachy yet complex. A banger!
Helena 2022 Pet Nat
Helena 2021 Pet Nat by small family winery Dluhe Grefty is a juicy, sparkling wine made in Moravia, Czech Republic with a blend of Saint Laurent, Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch grapes.
Expect total juice for a pet nat! This vintage is a little-explosive as super cloudy colour may suggest it could be.
After a slight rubbery reduction to blow off after opening, expect tart and sour rhubarb notes mingling with herbal touches, vanilla, baking spices and cherry car sweets. Crazy style! And it changes a lot throughout going through the bottle, gettling a little crazier in flavour at the end!
Rufus
This AWESOME red wine (or is it a dark Rosé?) is made with 50% Blaufränkisch, 25% Müller Thurgau and 25% Neuburger grapes, which are fermented in old oak barrels.
We loved this wine, it's super light and vibrant with notes of sour cherry sweets tingling on the tongue and an element of herbacious touches. What a cool wine!
Non Grata 2023
This complex, intricate and special orange wine is made with a vibrant blend of Gewürztaminer and Pinot Gris grapes.
Dluhe Grefty have become a firm favourite of ours recently and we are proud to import their wines - they really are super interesting, unique and delicious. Here in Non-Grata 2023, the wines gives off elements of cooked apricots, thyme, orange peel, hay and Angostura bitters. Sensational flavour and complexity for the price!
Alba Tilia 2023
This white wine is made with 100% Riesling grapes, and features a slightly salty and savoury touch that would make it work amazing with light vegetal dinners, salads and more. This wine is similar to Alba Mixtura, in its presence.
