Austria | Austrian Natural Wine
In regards to natural wine, Austria is home to one of the most exciting regions in the world, and there is an abundance of Natural Wine in the region - especially in the Burgenland region surround Lake Neusiedel where popular producers like Claus Preisinger, Gut Oggau, Koppitsch, Pittnauer and Christian Tschida are based.
The cool climate and fertile soils of this region create the perfect conditions for cultivating a wide variety of grape varietals. From the elegant and aromatic Grüner Veltliner to the velvety and full-bodied Blaufränkisch, Austrian winemakers have truly embraced the beauty of their land. The region is also known for its indigenous grape varieties such as St. Laurent and Zweigelt, which showcase the true character of Austrian wine.
When it comes to natural wine production, Austria stands out as a leading producer. Known for its commitment to sustainable farming practices, winemakers in this region prioritize biodiversity and ecological balance. Aside from the Burgenland region, the other major part for Natural Winemaking is over in the Steiermark region (aka Styria) where producers like Andreas Tscheppe, Sepp Muster, Werlitsch, Tauss, Schnabel and Strohmeier make some of the finest wines in Europe, utilising their famous Opok soils.
