Vin Jaune 2016 (one per order)

Vin Jaune 2016 is a natural wine crafted by Philippe Chatillon, in the Jura region in France. This oxidative white wine aged under flor for at least 6 years and 3 months is made with Savagnin grapes and bottled in a 62cl Clavelin bottle, as is standard.

This 2016 vintage is absolutely sensational, with the typical curry powder note alongside walnut and sultanas. Truly a gem.. but age it for a decade and you will be rewarded even further...

What is Vin Jaune?

Vin Jaune is the Jura's most famous wine: Savagnin left in barrel without topping up for at least 6 years and 3 months, so a layer of flor yeast grows on the surface. That slow, controlled oxidation creates the curry spice, walnut and dried fruit character, and the wine is always bottled in the 62cl clavelin, which is roughly what remains from a litre of wine after all that time in barrel.
