Sang de Terre 2022 (RARE)

Sang de Terre is an incredible, energetic natural wine crafted by Clos Bateau, in the Beaujolais region in France. This red wine is actually made with Pinot Noir grapes, which is uncommon for the region.

How is Sang de Terre from Clos Bateau made?

The Pinot Noir grapes are taken from 50 year old vines grown on Argilo-Calcaire & Granite Rose soils. The Pinot Noir grapes then see 7 months maceration in the Clos Bateau underground qvevri Amphora after being hand destemmed. Once pressing is done, it is then aged for a further 3 months in old barriques (topped off with a splash of Gamay).

Sang di Terre 2022 is a wild ride, and quite an impressive experience! There are elements of Pinot Noir you would not expect here, and tasting it blind with winemakers they guessed a Carignan or something similar from the South of France like Roussillon, a much hotter location than Beaujolais.
