Pinot Meunier
Pinot Meunier, also known as Schwarzriesling is an intriguing grape variety that is primarily grown in the Champagne region of France, and some parts of Germany amongst others. It produces wines that are often described as fruity, with notes of red berries, cherries, and a hint of spice. Pinot Meunier wines are typically medium-bodied, with a good balance of acidity and tannins.
In Champagne, Pinot Meunier plays a crucial role in the production of sparkling wines, where it adds depth and complexity to the final blend (although it can someitmes be seen 100% used solely for Champagne). It is often blended with other grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to create well-rounded and elegant Champagnes.
Natural wine producers using Pinot Meunier themselves as single varietal wines include 2Naturkinder, Max Sein Wein and Weingoutte.
