Widely regarded as a legend of the French natural wine scene, Patrick Bouju & his partner Justine Loiseau now manage around 9 hectares in Auvergne, France. Patrick and Justine, who make wine under the name 'Domaine la Bohème', also buy grapes from other growers to craft some of their wines (i.e. Negociant wines), in order to push their offering beyond their own vines.
This is where the pair can get quite creative in their grape choices, showcasing lesser known grape varietals like Mondeuse & Altesse. Patrick Bouju wine (or vin de la Boheme as we sometimes say in fun in the office) is in hot demand, especially in Germany, France, the UK and USA, and the domaine wines showcase great age-ability too making them somewhat collectable.
In this box you'll find:
CC 2022
CC is a natural wine vinified by Patrick Bouju, in the Auvergne region in France, but the grapes are grown in the Loire. This white wine is made with Negoce Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc grapes, with a splash of Sauvignon Blanc.
WE LOVE THIS WINE. It's super refreshing, and features hits of bright, citrus fruit with hints of meadow flower and freshly cut grass. Easy, clean finish that is ideal for an afternoon sip!
G&M 2022
G&M 2022 by Patrick Bouju & Justine Loiseau of Domaine la Boheme is a light orange wine, vinified in Auvergne but with grapes sourced elsewhere.
This blend changes year to year, with this 2022 featuring 30% Muscat d’Alexandrie (Zibibbo) from the south of France, 20% Gewürztraminer, 30% Chardonnay muscaté from auvergne and the rest us a mix of Grenache blanc and Grenache Gris, Ugni Blanc
This wine is beautiful! Aromatic, clean, interesting and tropical. Expect JUICY notes of peppermint, physalis, papaya, honeymelon, angostura bitters and much more. SUCH A DELIGHT. Highly recommended!
MO 2021
Mo by Patrick Bouju is a natural wine made in Auvergne with the unique and rather expressive, often tannic red grape Mondeuse from Savoie, which is vinified in amphora and barrel.
Expect a rich in flavour wine both juicy and only slightly tannic at the same time, very integrated. A delicous example of a wine that is both serious and easy... Like a quantum superposition, a Schrödinger's Cat of a wine.
Notes of forest floor, moss and berry fruits play on the nose along with sour cherry, lime and the texture on the palate is like very fine grain sandpaper, but with beautifully pronounced acidity to provide counterbalance. Very enticing and drinkable.
Would work great with duck or game dishes, yet would be equally enjoyable with a soft cheeseboard. Age will benefit it further
