Lammidia Wines
Lammidia is a natural wine producer based in a small village in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo; a traditional Italian town at 700 meters above sea level. With vineyards feturing a Pergola system to protect the grapes from the heat, most Lammidia wines are fun, energetic and generally with a higher-acidity balance than most, with some using volatile acidity as a feature that lifts the wines to new heights. Childhood friends Davide and Marco have amassed a loyal army of fans for their high-acid juicy wines.
Popular Lammidia bottles include Panda, Bianchetto, Rosso Carbo and Frekt
Two lifelong friends start a winery together
Lammidia is a natural winery in the Abruzzo region of Italy known for its incredibly energetic, low-intervention wines. The winery was founded in 2013 by lifelong friends Davide Gentile and Marco Giuliani. Like many other winemakers, it started with a passion for drinking natural wines but soon evolved into the two abandoning their former jobs to make wine full-time. The winemaking began in Davide’s grandmother Antonia’s house, and in fact it was grandma Antonia who gave the winery its name when a fermentation failed to start and she performed a folk ritual to drive away “l’ammidia”, the evil eye!
Fun and vibrant low-intervention wines
Despite being a relatively young winery, Lammidia has gained a reputation as one of Italy's most popular natural winemakers. Their wines have been praised for their authenticity and boldness, and Davide’s and Marco’s commitment to sustainable and natural winemaking has made them a leader in natural wine, inspiring others to adopt similar practices.
Lammidia uses mostly Montepulciano and Trebbiano, but also some Pinot Noir, Barbera, and Moscato too. They don’t hire any agronomists, oenologists, or external technicians, instead claiming that all of their choices are the result of ‘research and unstoppable curiosity to experience new things.’ The wines are made using traditional winemaking methods with as little intervention as possible and no added sulphur. We find their wines to be incredibly vibrant, juicy, fun, and easygoing - ideal for summer! Some of their most popular bottles include Panda, Bianchetto, and Rosso Carbo.
