Swartland | Natural Wine from Swartland
Swartland is a large wine producing area in the Western Cape of South Africa. While it is mainly known for its Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, and Pinotage, other hot-climate reds Grenache and Mourvedre are also grown. Our favourite natural wine producer from Swartland is Testalonga!
Nestled between the coastal mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, this region benefits from cool ocean breezes and diverse microclimates, creating ideal conditions for winemaking, however, not much natural wine is grown in the region, or at least, not much that makes it to other countries.
Swartland has a rich diversity of soils for winemakers, including shale, granite, and sandstone.
