California dreaming
Subject to Change is headed by winemaker and founder Alex Pomerantz, a self proclaimed lover of food, wine, and hospitality. In 2011, he made the big decision to drive across the country for a harvest internship in northern California - and stayed. After working for several years for a winery in various positions, Alex started Subject to Change in 2017. Starting his own winery was ‘a way to connect my love of natural wine to my love of California, the land and the culture of growing and consuming locally.’
Sourced from local chemical-free & chemical-free & holistic vineyards
Subject to Change does not have its own vineyard but instead purchases grapes from others locally (mostly in Mendocino County). Because of this the grape varieties in their wines vary from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to Chenin Blanc, Zinfandel, Grenache, Petit Syrah, Carignan, and others depending on the year. They focus on relationships with chemical-free and chemical-free & holistic vineyards from which they can be either the majority or only buyer. In the winery, they take a nuanced approach to maceration and oxidation, no sulfur is added, and the wines are not fined or filtered. Types of wine vary from glouglou reds to more serious Chardonnays.
