NATURAL WINES BY LARMANDIER-BERNIER
Larmandier-Bernier is based in Vertus, at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs in Champagne. The house took its name when Philippe Larmandier married Elisabeth Bernier in 1971, and Pierre Larmandier took over in 1988 with his wife Sophie. Their sons Arthur and Georges have since joined. They farm around 50 parcels in Vertus and the Grand Cru villages of Cramant, Chouilly, Oger and Avize, mostly Chardonnay. Pierre dropped herbicides in 1992 and the vines are now farmed holistically.
Each cru ferments separately with wild yeasts in barrels and old foudres, staying in wood until bottling the next summer. A perpetual reserve, kept since 2004, makes up around 40% of the non-vintage blends, and dosage never goes above 4 g per litre. We stock Latitude, the round, generous Extra Brut from ripe Chardonnay grown south of Vertus.
