Blaufränkisch (aka Lemberger) is the natural red wine from Weingut Lukas Krauss in Germany (and unusual, as it is more common in Austria). This one from Lukas Krauss is delightful, It's fruity, soft and with a very mild earthy touch. Excellent value and well worth buying

LUKAS KRAUSS

NATURAL WINES BY LUKAS KRAUSS

Lukas Krauss makes his wines in Lambsheim, a small village on the edge of the Pfalz wine road. His parents founded the estate in 1984. Lukas trained at Müller-Catoir, made his first wines in 2008 and became co-owner of the family estate in 2016. The hat is his trademark and a link to his grandfather, which is why he signs his bottles as Mann mit Hut.

He has a soft spot for old regional grapes like Kerner, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Herold and Scheurebe, and since 2018 he has made those wines with nothing added. The Landschwein blends, named after old farm pig breeds, are mostly raised in steel. Single-variety wines like Silvaner, Grüner Veltliner and Lemberger age in used oak and local acacia barrels. His favourite is sparkling: the Cremant de Pinot is Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier and we also love his Rose Sekt.
