Veneto | Natural Wine from Veneto
In regards to Natural Wine, Veneto is an exciting region with more natural wine producers popping up or converting every year. Veneto is famous for its Prosecco production, but finding it made naturally can be a challenge. The most common grapes grown in Veneto are white varieties, including Glera (Prosecco) and Garganega (the predominant grape in Soave), as well as reds Valpolicella and Bardolino. Amarone is another style of wine here, made by first drying the grapes before fermentation to concentrate their flavour.
Popular natural wine producers here include Ombretta, Tasi Wine and Sassara, although most notably Costadila are the most iconic domains, which was founded by pioneer Ernesto Cattel, who has since passed away but the domain lives on. Costadila are important for being a pioneer of skin contact maceration with the Col Fondo technique, which is essentialy a Pet Nat, aka the Ancestral Method.
