Cala Iancu is a natural wine crafted by Il Mortellito, in the south eastern corner of Sicily, in Italy. This white wine is made with Sicilian grapes 90% Grillo and 10% Catarratto grapes, and we hear it is VERY fresh, and very Italian - dolce vita in a glass some would say. Aged in stainless steel tanks to achieve this, we expect this wine to deliver a lot of nice summery vibes and great value too!

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

IL MORTELLITO

NATURAL WINES BY IL MORTELLITO

Il Mortellito is Dario Serrentino's estate in the Val di Noto, the south-eastern corner of Sicily, near the Vendicari reserve. His family has worked this land since the early twentieth century, and Dario grew almonds here for years before turning to wine full time. There are 23 hectares of bush vines among olive and almond trees, on limestone, about 1.5 km from the sea.

Dario works only with native grapes: Grillo, Catarratto, Moscato di Noto, Frappato and Nero d'Avola. Grapes are hand-picked, fermentations start on their own, and the whites are made in steel with little skin contact. Sulphur is limited to a small dose at bottling. We stock Cala Iancu, mostly Grillo with a little Catarratto and one night on skins, and Viaria, a dry, salty Moscato di Noto with a short maceration.
