NATURAL WINES BY DOMAINE DE LA PINTE
In 1953 Roger Martin planted 14 hectares of Savagnin at La Pinte à la Capitaine, between Arbois and Pupillin in the Jura, on the blue Lias marl that Vin Jaune comes from. His son Pierre stopped all synthetic treatments across the estate in 1999 and moved to holistic farming in 2009. Grandson Vincent Martin runs it now. The estate has grown to 34 hectares of Savagnin, Chardonnay, a little Melon à Queue Rouge, Poulsard, Pinot Noir and Trousseau.
The wines age in three 70-metre stone cellars built from 1955. This is a more classic house than most we stock: a small dose of sulphur goes in before fermentation and occasionally during ageing. They make every Jura style, Vin Jaune included. Our steady sellers are the Crémant du Jura Brut, from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Savagnin, and the Savagnin Ouille 36 mois, kept topped up in barrel for three years.
