NATURAL WINES BY HERZANOVI
Herzanovi is a small family winery in Kobylí, a village in South Moravia in the south-east of the Czech Republic. Jakub Herzán runs it with Sandra and Zuzana, on an estate their father founded in 1997. Jakub and Sandra met at winemaking college. They farm 4.3 hectares of clay-loam over a loess subsoil, planted with Grüner Veltliner, Müller-Thurgau, St. Laurent and Cabernet Moravia among others.
Jakub is drawn to long macerations, and the cellar holds used French oak barrels alongside Georgian qvevri. The range splits in two. The black-label wines get a small dose of sulphur before bottling, while the earthen-coloured labels have none added at all. Expect macerated whites, pet-nats, a peppery Veltliner and a mineral Silvaner. Popular bottles include Kompot, P2 and Cabernet Moravia, and we currently stock the Silvaner.
