Smarazen by Mirco Mariotti is a Pet-Nat sparkling wine we adore, made in Emilio-Romagna, Italy. It's nicely saline, minerally and a REFRESHING pet-nat!

Made with a blend of Malvasia and Trebbiano, this fizz is crisp, but still has a slight twang. This wine really is great value for its low price. We found interesting notes of coffee flavoured jelly beans on the nose, leading to wet stone and more citric elements.

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

Mirco Mariotti

NATURAL WINES BY MIRCO MARIOTTI

Mirco Mariotti farms the sandy soils of the Po Delta near Comacchio close to the Adriatic. His father Giorgio opened a wine lab and consultancy in Argenta in 1976, and Mirco and his sister Barbara started making wine with him in 1998. The main vineyard, Fondo Luogaccio, lies on the edge of the protected Duna della Puia dunes. Phylloxera does not thrive in sand, so the vines grow on their own roots, and some are over 100 years old.

The local grape is Fortana, a red variety of the Bosco Eliceo DOC, alongside Trebbiano, Malvasia, Garganega and rarities like Famoso and Albanella. Most of his wines are pét-nats that finish fermenting in bottle, fresh and mineral but a lot of fun. Set e Mez is a Fortana rosé fizz, Surlié is red Fortana after about ten days on skins, Smarazen blends Malvasia and Trebbiano, and Centro is Garganega.
