Official info

Production: 1400 bottles
MARKO SKIN is a hand-made selection of the best grapes from the best and oldest vines of the property.

Vineyards
The vineyards are located in the village of Kortezubi, a little old town in Bizkaia, famous for its prehistoric caves which form a Unesco World Heritage Site. The vineyard soil is composed of calcareous clay.

Winemaking
After 8 days of skin contact in 300 litre amphorae, the skins are removed and the wine is left to ferment. It is then transferred to 225 litre French oak barrel to age for 8 months in contact with its lees. The wine is bottled unfiltered.

Character (notes from producer)
Marko Skin shows aroma ́s of quince and baked apple. On the palate the lively acidity is well balanced by flavours of caramalized orange peel and dried apricot.

The name Skin clearly refers to the skin contact this wine has been given. In the label this is depicted as a skinless face, accompanied by the phrase “Your skin attracts me with the gravity of the entire cosmos which outside suffers its impenetrable black eternity,” by Nicarguan poet Giaconda Belli.

We ship every Wednesday. Order by Tuesday 10am.

WHAT IS ORANGE WINE?

Orange wines are actually white wines, but with a different winemaking process - they’re made by fermenting the juice with the grape skins, which is mostly done with red wines, not white. This extra step adds tannins, flavor, and a unique color to the wine.
Because of the skin contact, orange wines tend to have more herbal, aromatic notes, and they can also have a bit of bitterness depending on the grape, how long the skins are left in contact with the juice, and the vessel used for maturation. Unlike most white wines, they can also feature tannins (which are formed from the skins, which white wines do not use). Orange wines are a style that brings out some really interesting flavors that many people adore for their unique properties, whether easy going or complex.
