SOS #12 2020 is a natural wine crafted by Oriol Artigas, in the Catalonia region in Spain. This red wine is made with Trepat grapes, and the grapes came from his friends at a time when he lost pretty much his entire crop from mildew, hence the name SOS to reflect his appeal for help and needing to work "Negoce" by buying grapes from his friends.
Production details of SOS #12 Success Vinicola: SOS #12 was born during the 2020 mildew crisis that destroyed nearly all of Oriol Artigas's harvest. He bought fruit from friends to keep producing. This bottle is 100% Trepat from Mariona Vendrell and Albert Canela of Succés Vinícola, sourced from their Borrells vineyard in Barberà de la Conca (Conca de Barberà). The 13-year-old vines grow on red sandy clay soils at 400 metres. Whole-cluster ferment with wild yeasts in fibreglass with 7 to 8 days of gentle skin maceration, then rests in stainless steel for a few months. No sulphur added.
Tasting Notes: We have not yet tried this vintage of SOS #12 by Oriol Artigas, but we hear it has notes of elderberry, pink plum, snappy herbs, cracked earth and a crunchy savoury lift.
