Maison Maenad - Katie Worobeck
Katie Worobeck is a Canadian winemaker based in the Jura region of France, who is passionate about soil health and sustainable agriculture.
Having worked her way up to assistant-winemaker in a Canadian winery before falling in love with Natural Wines, through some mutual friends she was invited to work with Jura legend Jean-Francois Ganevat.
Here she learned how to give wines more finesse and refinement. She now runs her own winery, Maison Maenad, and forges her own path and her own style. Despite being a relative newcomer to the natural wine scene, her high-quality wines are in high demand, with small quantity made.
Here in this walkthrough, she discusses sustainable agriculture, long Élevage on white wines, her favourite grape Savagnin, the experiences with Jean-Francois Ganevat, the challenges of being a female winemaker and exactly how she was able to secure her (beautiful) plot of vineyards.
Popular wines include De Lavant & Les Oublies. Both hard to get at this moment in time, as whilst she now has more land - her wines are still aging in barrel. Hopefully in the next few years her wines become more accessable.
