River 2024 is a natural wine crafted by Matassa, in the Roussillon region in France. This light red wine is made with Syrah grapes, here with a softer, lighter 11% weight than usually found. Winemaker Tom Lubbe prefers delicate expressions and we are excited to try this new wine, which we expect to have the characteristics of Syrah (little spicy, peppery and with dark forest fruit touches) but with that typical Matassa edge.

This Syrah was grown a higher altitude than most other Matassa wines, at 500 meters near the town of Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet. After hand harvesting and being foot trodden, the wine sees 5 days of skin maceration before aging for 8 months in large, old Tonneaux barrels.

NATURAL WINES BY MATASSA

Domaine Matassa is the natural wine estate of Tom Lubbe, who is based in Roussillon, at the Southern tip of France close to Spain. Matassa is one of the most in-demand wineries in the natural wine scene, which stems largely from their approachable drinkability and high quality expressions of local grapes in their vineyards.
