Aramon
Aramon is a red wine grape that is primarily grown in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. It is also cultivated in other parts of France, such as the Rhône Valley and Provence, but is mainly in the Languedoc region. This grape has a rich history, dating back to the 19th century, and was once one of the most widely planted varieties in France, but is in steady decline since. As Jancis Robinson states: Its resistence to oidium, phylloxera, and powdery mildew led to its reputation as workhorse grape that could be relied on by growers for dependable financial returns. However, when cropped at high yields, the resultant wines are very light red in color (but show a blue-black tinge), low in alcohol and extract and generally thin on character.
