Schioppettino
Schioppettino is a wine grape that originates from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region in northeastern Italy. This grape is primarily grown in the provinces of Udine and Gorizia, where the cool climate and hilly terrain provide the perfect conditions for its cultivation.
Known for its intense flavors and aromas, Schioppettino produces wines that are rich, complex, and full-bodied. The grape itself is small and thick-skinned, resulting in wines with deep color and robust tannins. Its flavors often include notes of blackberries, cherries, and spices, with a hint of earthiness.
While Schioppettino was nearly extinct in the mid-20th century, dedicated winemakers have successfully revived its production in recent years. Today, it is considered one of the most prestigious and sought-after grape varieties in the region.
The wine estate Bressan is a known producer of Schippettino in the natural wine scene.
